In the every day world, adults strive to share
good advice with teens based on years of experience. In the
every day world, teenagers strive to find out about the world
in their own unique way. Despite good parental intentions,
teens will test out what they think and feel about their lives.
In fact, it is the teenager's job to critique the advice and
perspectives of parents (authors, teachers broadcasters, peers,
etc.) and to weigh all of this input against what they personally
learn about themselves, others, and the world around them.
Middle school and high
school age youngsters learn to reflect on their origins, choices,
decisions and directions; improve relationships with peers
and adults; and develop skills to effectively cope with life
stressors.
Dr. Susan also helps family
members examine their family system and begin to gain the
clarity and perspective to recognize and emphasize the healthy
patterns and change the destructive and ineffective ones.
